E-Commerce

The evolution of the Internet has introduced a vast array of legal and technical issues that fall under a body of law commonly referred to as Internet and e-commerce law. Our firm has expertise in areas ranging from domain name issues to issues concerning the procurement and enforcement of intellectual property based on Internet-related technical enhancements.

Common examples of our services include: the transfer of infringing domain names to a trademark owner; the analysis of whether materials are in the public domain and their availability for copying without a license; the development of agreements for web site development and IP protection; and the procurement, evaluation, and preparation of opinions regarding patents directed to Internet and e-commerce inventions. Illustrative subject matter for these patents include Internet-based secure-access systems, payment systems, Internet-implemented software and hardware inventions, Internet-protocol communications, and "business methods."

The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office is currently processing many patent applications for inventions directed to the Internet and e-commerce technology. Our firm uses its expertise in a wide range of these technology areas, along with significant litigation and prosecution experience, to advise our clients of the relevant issues to ensure that business rights are protected and enforced, and to assess potential liability for infringement of the valid rights of others.
