Betsy Fenske’s practice areas include the preparation, filing and prosecution of patent and trademark applications both inside and outside the U.S. She also practices in patent litigation and client counseling, including drafting opinions regarding patentability, freedom-to-operate, infringement, validity and trade secrets.

Betsy’s experience covers a variety of high-technology areas requiring cross-disciplinary backgrounds. With an emphasis in server and cloud based technologies, Betsy has significant experience in computer sciences, drafting and prosecuting patents covering network management, network security, cloud computing, enterprise communication, data mining and analytics, and access point coordination. She also has significant experience in a range of bio-technologies including, for example: biologic and pharmaceutical drug development, toxicological and pharmacologic drug testing, drug discovery software, and point-of-care diagnostic equipment. As much of Betsy’s professional career has involved varying degrees of life and physical sciences, Betsy is well versed in related cross-disciplines including electronics, photovoltaic panels, and image processing devices.

Betsy earned a B.S. in Biology from the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. She earned an M.S. in Biotechnology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she focused her capstone research on Global Feasibility of Hydrogen Production by Genetically Modified Chlamydomonas Reinhardtii. She earned her Juris Doctorate from Hamline University School of Law. While at Hamline, she was a member of the Student Intellectual Property Law Association, served as President of the Hamline Veterans Association, and was a recipient of the Minnesota Intellectual Property Law Scholarship. She practiced with a Minneapolis law firm for more than four years before joining Crawford and Maunu.

Betsy is licensed to practice law in the State of Minnesota and is further registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
